You are right - you don't HAVE to litter your blog with ads, nobody does, but it does happen. There are certain blogs that I read (like my own) who don't carry any ads (though I'm still toying with it).... then there are those people in the middle, who balance their content with nicely targettied and fitting ads... then there are those who just go "balls out" (pardon the abruptness) and litter their blog with ads for products they neither know nothing about or, in a lot of cases, care about. You're right on one thing - convergence it bringing this whole advertising lark to a head, and its been gearing up the last few years. If I ever see a Google channel on cable (no doubt it will be running 24hr advertising) it'll be a day too soon. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not against ads by any means, simplly more amazed at how high the acceptance level is now that majority of bloggers are coming to terms with the fact they can earn a buck or two from their blogs, from doing something they like.
